About Us

Spielwelt German Parents Association Inc  [ABN 22 794 868 994] is a not for profit organisation running children’s programs in German in Canberra.

The Association is responsible for the operation and management of the German Australian Playschool and playgroups, and the maintenance of the Spielwelt German children's library.  We also provide administrative and logistical support to the German Australian Pfadfinder Scout group.

The current Rules of the Association (ie constitution) is in the process of being updated to better reflect our current organisational structure.  Our AGM is held in February each year, and you can view the minutes from our last AGM (if the link does not take you to the latest AGM, please email us, and we'll happily update the link!)

All parents with children enrolled in any of our programs, upon payment of the prescribed fees, automatically become members of the Association.

It is also possible to become a member without having a child in one of our programs, by applying to the committee and paying a small fee.

Members of the association have voting rights, and access to our extensive German children's library of books, CDs, DVDs and games.

The Association is run by parents for families.  Spielwelt has a committee of 5 dedicated parents, representing the playschool, playgroup and scout group; and the committee is supported by their families, and the wider Spielwelt family community.

Spielwelt families contribute to the running of the programs in various ways.  Each family is expected to put in a certain number of volunteer hours per term:  For playgroup and scout parents, 1 hour per term is expected; and 4 hours per term for GAP families.

Volunteers help maintain the hall, write up our newsletter, liaise with other like-minded organisations in Canberra (ACT Bilingual Education Alliance, Canberra Preschool Society, Canberra German-speakers Network, and others), raise funds, write grant applications, look after our library, and help put on special events, and do marketing, and other helpful tasks.

To get an idea of how dedicated our parent group is, check out these amazing photos of some of the things our volunteers have achieved, transforming our Scout Hall into a licensed children's services venue, from 2008 to 2010.  And it just keeps getting better!

We welcome German-speaking visitors to our programs, as story readers, helpers, Scout leaders, activity presenters, or whatever you like!  Talk to us about how you can be involved!  Volunteers are of course screened and supervised, if they will be working with children directly.
