Das Zentrum Australian-German Institute

Das Zentrum is the Canberra meeting place for those interested in the culture and language of the German speaking regions of Europe. Das Zentrum currently enjoys the support of the Goethe Institute.

Das Zentrum offers a broad range of print media, videos, DVDs and music as well as a representative selection of classic and modern literature by German speaking authors (many also available in English translations). Various non-fiction and reference books and modern teaching materials are also on offer.

Das Zentrum hosts weekly conversation groups as well as language courses. It also arranges for private lessons.

Events like the Immersion Weekend help people to discover and promote the German language. In addition, Das Zentrum organises lectures, concerts, excursions, social events and much more.

Members of Das Zentrum enjoy free library access and regularly receive its bilingual newsletter “Federkiel” which is supported by the ACT Office of Multicultural Affairs and contains interesting articles on topical issues as well as information on events in the German-speaking community.
